Rules and Judging

1. Only three sighting poles are permitted one of which may be placed on the headland.

2. Competitors will gather 15 or 16 furrows and scatter to the higher number.

3. One assistant is allowed to help with the setting up and removal of the sighting poles at the start and when a competitor is required to set out his own Cast–off. An extra 10 minutes is allowed when this is necessary. NO PERSON is ALLOWED ON THE PLOT at any other time and it is the Competitor’s responsibility to ensure that assistants and spectators do not touch the ploughing or adjust the equipment.

4. Competitors must dismount from the tractor on the land side when making adjustments. They must not handle, tramp on or use any hand held implement to “dress” the ploughing. The furrows must be left as they “leave the mouldboards”.

5. Depth

In the Vintage Classes the Minimum Depth of ploughing is 12.5cm. In the Classic Class the Minimum Depth is 17 cms. These Depths must be achieved by the fourth round and must be maintained up to the fourth round from the Finish. Measurements will be made in three places from time to time during ploughing and any Competitor not achieving the minimum will be warned. If he does not correct this fault immediately and further measurements show he is still too shallow he will be penalised. See later for the penalties to be applied.

6. Width

The width of the furrows are: Vintage Classes-24cm minimum to 28cm maximum Exhibition Class – 8ins maximum. In other Classes the Width is at the Competitors discretion.

7. Judging Procedure

The ploughing will be Judged by the marking of each aspect of the ploughing independently from the opposite ends of the plots. The marks given will be averaged in arriving at a Competitors score.
